Prescriptions

The practice operates a system that allows you to obtain a prescription for regular medication without seeing a Doctor or a Nurse.

Non-urgent advice: NB.

Prescriptions will not be issued if a medication review is due. On the right-hand side of the repeat prescription is a tear-off sheet giving details of all the repeat medication you are on. It is important that you use this slip to order further prescriptions.

All repeat prescriptions will be done within 48 hours of your request  and if a request is made on Friday or surgery is likely to be closed due to public or bank holidays, please allow an extra 24 hours on top of the normal 48 hours for the prescriptions to be processed before collecting. Please request your repeat medications well in advance. All repeat medications are computer generated and can only be processed 7-10 days prior to the due date. All medications are usually prescribed in multiples of 4 weeks unless it is required for a shorter period.

Electronic Prescribing

Repeat Prescriptions: If you normally visit your GP practice just to pick up your paper prescription, instead, your GP will send the prescription electronically to the pharmacy you choose and you simply collect it from the pharmacy. This will save you time visiting the surgery.

The prescription is an electronic message so there is no paper prescription to lose. You will have more choice about where to get your medicines from because they can be collected from a pharmacy near to where you live, work or shop.

If the prescription needs to be cancelled or altered the GP can do it electronically and issue a new prescription without you having to return to the practice – saving you extra trips.

You may not have to wait long at the pharmacy as your repeat prescriptions can be made ready before you arrive.

Acute prescriptions: Any acute prescriptions given at the time of GP consultation can also be sent directly to your chosen pharmacy and you can collect at your convenient time. You do not need to hand over the paper prescription to your pharmacy and return later to pick up the medications.

Any medications advised to you during telephone consultation can also be sent directly to the pharmacy, making it available instantly and you do not need to visit the practice to collect the prescription.

(If you are interested please tell your pharmacy and the practice manager at the practice to enrol for electronic prescribing)

Local Pharmacies

Our local pharmacies offer a request and collection service for prescriptions and we recommend that you may use this free service. Please let us know which pharmacy you would like to collect your prescription from when ordering.

This information will be recorded in your electronic records for future use and if you change your choice, please tell receptionist at the time of ordering the repeat medications.

The pharmacy can dispense both NHS and private prescriptions, can tell you about medicines and how to use them safely. They will take back unwanted medicines and dispose them for you.

A pharmacist is available to talk to you in confidence about common illnesses and healthcare and you will find leaflets in the pharmacy to give you information on all sorts of health topics.

Our surgery does not recommend any particular pharmacy and you can choose pharmacy of your choice convenient to you. Most of the pharmacies nationwide are capable to accept prescriptions electronically. Some pharmacies also take part in Medication Review Scheme and will review your medication in confidence and send his recommendation for any change or alteration required to the GP; this service is also offered by online pharmacists.
