Blood Test Services

If you are not fasting for your blood test, it may be advisable to arrive after noon for your test when wait times are generally shorter

General pathology are not able to bleed any children under 3 years old in either blood test areas at Queen’s or King George Hospitals. For children under 3, please telephone Children’s OPD at Queen’s Hospital on 01708435289 to make an appointment.

Tests requiring patients to fast overnight

If you have been asked to fast overnight, unless specifically directed otherwise, the fasting period should be from 10pm until after the blood has been taken. During the fasting period, only water and normal medication should be taken as directed.

Labelling your own specimen containers

Please ensure specimen containers are labelled with the patient’s FIRST & LAST NAMES, DATE OF BIRTH AND GENDER. Date and time when specimen was collected would also be helpful.


Test Results

The practice has a strict policy regarding confidentiality and data protection. We will only release test results to the person to whom they relate unless that person has given prior permission for the release of this data or they are not capable of understanding the results.

If you need to drop other samples such as swab test, Mid stream Urine Sample ( MSU ) for infection , stool sample, please drop at pathology counter at Queens or King George Hospital or any other blood testing sites/ clinics.


X-rays

Following a review of the service provision for Chest X-ray requests, Radiology Department at Barking Havering and Redbridge Trust would now like to offer a walk in service for all CHEST X-Ray requests only. 

Although Covid-19 remains a concern, the successful roll out of the vaccine programme is offering reassurance recommence the walk-in services progressively.

Appointment would still be required for all other x-ray requests.

BHRUT provide x-ray services at the following locations

  • Fanshaw (10am to 4pm, Monday to Friday)
  • Barking Hospital, (9am to 7pm, 7 days a week)
  • Harold Wood, (9am to 6pm, 7 days a week)
  • King George Hospital (9am to 7pm, 7 days a week)
  • Queens Hospital (9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday).

All other x-rays, CT MRI, Ultrasound scans are done by appointment only.
